Spokane County Explorer Search and Rescue works under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff Department in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America.
Spokane County Explorer Search and Rescue (ESAR) was founded in 1970 being the first search and rescue team within the region. Young adults from the age of fourteen to twenty in addition to their parents are welcome to participate.
The ESAR teams primary mission is to provide community volunteer support in the search of the missing and rescue of the injured.
As a search and rescue volunteer individuals receive professional training to include wilderness first aid, search techniques, navigation, survival, helicopter operations, and FEMA incident command procedures.
The ESAR team meets at the Sheriff Department Training Center at the old University City Mall in Spokane Valley at 10319 E. Appleway Blvd. Please see attached link for directions map.
